"170,000 people died, and in the next few weeks that number could double or triple," actor Morgan Freeman said in asking for donations. "Right now, we can all work toward one goal, to bring help to these people in their time of need."

A black-clad Madonna, perched on a stool and singing John Lennon's "Imagine," opened the two-hour American Red Cross fund-raiser, televised live on NBC and emceed by Jay Leno. (more)
