SBC ... AT&T... and $15 Billion dollar deal
possibly on the table...

Reports say that there is a $15 Billion dollar deal
on the table for San Antonio based SBC Communications
to acquire New Jersey based AT&T. The Times reported
that a deal such as this would more than likely end up
costing SBC more than $16 billion dollars...

Would such a deal mark the end of THE Ma Bell ??
AT&T the onetime telecommunications giant was founded
by Alexander Graham Bell nearly 120 years ago. Reports
are they still have nearly 30 million long-distance
customers even after federal anti trust lawsuits broke
the company apart nearly 21 years ago.

The Wall Street Journal reported that over the past few
weeks executives have sporadically met and there have been
no final decisions yet made.

Thursday reports by The New York TImes mentioned that
the negotiations at this point are "very, very sensitive"
and "fluid".

In 2004 AT&T pulled back from marketing on consumer
telephone business and cut their work force by
12,500. AT&T continues to aggressively be marketing
for residential customers needing internet-based
phone service.

Thursdays trading (1-27-05) of AT&T shares are on
the rise while SBC's shares are showing a decline...
with the news and information releases in the press
today - I wonder what Friday's (and Monday's)
trading picture will look like ??
