WEF Commemorates World Water Day 2005

Alexandria, VA -- The Water Environment Federation (WEF)
will join the United Nations (UN) on Tuesday, March 22 in
commemorating World Water Day 2005. Commemoration
of this event is an excellent opportunity to strive for
improvements and highlight the inter-relatedness of water
to human health and sustainable development.
The theme for this year is "Water for Life: 2005-2015”
and marks the beginning of the UN’s “International
Decade for Action”.

WORLD WATER DAY - 22 March 2005

The World Water Day for 2005 (22 March) is guided
by the new water decade’s theme “
Water for Life”, the starting day for the new
International Decade on Water 2005 – 2015.
As the International Decade for Action “
Water for Life” begins, the United
Nations and Governments are seeking to galvanize
efforts to meet the internationally agreed target on
halving the number of people without access to safe
drinking water and basic sanitation by 2015.

of world's children

around the globe, UNICEF Executive Director Carol Bellamy
said that 400 million children - almost one fifth of all
children - lack even the bare minimum of safe water they need

outbreak of disease in areas hit by the Dec. 26 tsunami
