At the conclusion of the test you will receive two separate scores:

Your General poetic knowledge will be determined based on your answers to 11 objective multiple choice questions. Your general poetic knowledge has nothing to do with your creativity or your present ability or future potential to write good poetry. It assesses your knowledge of poetic structure, form, and technique. You will receive your personal results by email immediately after you complete the test.

Your creative potential and poetic flair will be determined through a personalized assessment of the poem you submit as part of this test. This assessment will require some time so that our editorial judges can review your work and determine whether you will be eligible to win one of 1175 prizes totaling $58,000 that we will be awarding to amateur poets in coming months. Prizes will be awarded based on the poem you submit, not by your answers to the multiple choice questions. You will receive an evaluation of your poem by mail.
