Profiting from Climate Change...
"Our operational performance is paying off with good results."
said Shell's Chief Executive, Jeroen van der Veer. Just
recently announced (Oct. 27, 2005) record profits for all the
major oil companies: Exxon Mobil and Shell.
"These companies are turning in record profits. They have
a responsibility to expand refining capacity" said Sam
Bodman, the US Energy Secretary in a recent meeting with
the Senate energy committee.
Increased dividends and share-buy-backs will be offered to
shareholders later this year by Shell as a means of sharing the
record earnings with investors and in an apparent attempt to
avoid the backlash of those green people clamoring for a windfall
tax to be imposed on these oil giants.
Ballooning profits of 75% quarterly were reported by Mobil
Exxon. Shell also reporting major profits even after the
expense and production slow down as the result of hurricanes.
"Shell is profiting from climate change, profiting from pollution
and damaging the lives of communities around the world." said the
Friends of the Earth campaigner, Craig Bennett.
The deteriorating climate of the planet is what environmental
campaigners claim Shell used to financially profit. Profiting in
such record numbers that it angered the politicians and
environmentalist to the point of stepping up the pressure on the
Government to levy a windfall tax on the oil companies.
