World's Fastest Growing Hobby...

Do you ever find yourself wondering what the worlds fastest
growing hobby is ??

The answer to that came to a surprise, even to me... Go ahead...
have a guess... It's FISH KEEPING...

There are over 30,000 species of fish. Not all species can be
grown or even maintained from home, but hundreds can be. Fish
keeping is not something a novice will want to just jump into
without reading and learning more first. It can be a very
expensive hobby if you don't take the time to educate yourself
first. Actually even for an educated fish keeper it is an
expensive hobby, but you'll suffer less loss and waste to educate
yourself first.

Keeping fish is an extremely relaxing hobby that gives others
much pleasure from being able to look at the fish swim and
interact in your aquarium. I personally have never seen any two
aquariums exactly alike. Aquariums can be in many different
sizes and shapes. Aquariums can have their interior aquaspace
designed or decorated in an endless number of themes. My
personal favorite single item to see incorporated into the design
of the interior of an aquarium would most definitely be greenery.
A close second favorite item to be used in the aqua space would
be colored gravel or colored glass.

Steps to Research when finding yourself interested in learning
about fish keeping:

1. Firstly, determine the type o fish you wish to maintain. Do
NOT purchase any fish keeping equipment until you have first
determined the type of fish that you will keep. You could be
wasting time and money to do so - out of order. Different fish
require different equipment. If you plan to keep more than one
type of fish in the same aquarium - you will need to research to
be sure that their living environments match and that they fish
themselves historically are able to co-exist. There are many
ways you can do the research - most popular and widest range of
information will be research on the internet, in your library, or
your local pet store. Doing the research and keeping a notebook
of your findings that have meaning to you - related to the type
fish you are interested in keeping. You might also want to
consider printing out those internet pages where you find what
you are looking for. Putting those pages into plastic page
protectors and placing them in your 3-ring binder FISH
Notebook will be helpful to you. An added plus to having the
notebook to refer to - you will be able to share your hobby
with others and show them how you set up your tank. It would be
an excellent bonding opportunity for a parent and child... or
an adult and a niece, nephew or grandchild. Or even a teacher
to share with students... etc...

2. Determine the location in your home where you will have your
aquarium / fish center. Allow space for all the equipment and
supplies it takes to maintain and care for the tank and fish. Be
sure to take into consideration the proximity of an electrical
outlet. Allow plenty of space behind the aquarium area for
things such as cords, tubing, filters and clear space where the
light on the aquarium is well vented to prevent heat build-up in a
confined space such as a book cabinet. Have the tank in a
location high enough and safe enough that it doesn't present a
problem to small children in your home (or visiting) , or pets.
